5 ways to earn $100K/year as a freelance web designer/developer

$100K / year as a freelance web designer & developer is totally doable. It will take a bit of hustle and heart but that income goal is totally reachable. Money doesn’t have to be a scary thing and the more comfortable we are talking about it, the easier it gets to reach our goals.

Do the work, share what you know and charge good money for it!

$100K / year : the breakdown

$100,000 / 12 = $8,333.333 per month

That number could be daunting or motivating. Think about your reaction to that figure because it’ll help you push through any money blocks.

Don't forget, your income doesn't have to be the same every month of the year. Some months you might make more than others, especially if you have special launches or promotions happening. Be sure to build in time for vacation and holidays because life is about more than just money! 

It's all about diversification

In the examples below, I've shown several ways you can earn $100k/year as a web designer/developer.

Personally I'm a big fan of diversification and including multiple income streams in your business, so you will see that reflected here. It keeps things interesting and lets you do different types of work, stay creative and push yourself to try out new things. 

The examples below include:

• website packages
• consulting
• digital products
• online courses
• live events
• etc. 

Do whatever works best for you!

Here are a few ways to get to $100K per year as a freelance web designer / developer

Option 1

Charge $4,500 for a website and book out 22 packages
$4,500 x 22 = $99,000 ( <—- just shy of $100K but basically there)

This route means that you’ll need to book and complete about two websites per month. Totally doable but it doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for vacation, time off, etc. Might have to work extra hard some months and knock back more websites in order to take time off at other points in the year and still meet the income goal.

Option 2

Charge $4,500 for a website and book out 12 packages. Total: $54,000

This means you have $46K to go which is about $3,833/month. Here’s how you can earn the rest of that money:

• create an evergreen course for $147 and sell 8 per month. Total : $1,176/month or $14,112/year
• create an open-close course for $250 and sell 33. Total : $8250/year
• put on a live masterclass (online) and sell 30 tickets for $47 each. Total : $,1410. Do this once a quarter (4x/year) for a total of $5,640/year
• offer consulting packages for $500 and book out 3 every month. Total : $1,500/month or $18,000/year

54,000 + 14,112 + 8,250 + 5,640 + 18,000 = $100,002

Option 3

Charge $4,500 for a website and book out 15 packages. Total : $67,500

This means you have $32,500K to go which is about $2,708.33/month. Here’s how you can earn the rest of that money:

• create an evergreen course for $147 and sell 15 per month. Total : $2,205/month or $26,640/year
• offer consulting packages for $500 and book out 12 session over the span of a year. Total : $6,000

67,500 + 26,640 + 6,000 = $99,960 ( <—- again, just shy of $100K but I have no doubt you can earn an extra $40 somehow)

Option 4

Charge $4,500 for a website and book out 15 packages. Total : $67,500

This means you have $32,500K to go which is about $2,708.33/month. Here’s how you can earn the rest of that money:

• create an evergreen course for $147 and sell 10 per month. Total : $1,470/month or $17,640/year
• offer consulting packages for $500 and book out 12 session over the span of a year. Total : $6,000
• launch digital products. Start off by creating 3 digital products that sell for $10 each and sell 25 of each every month (75 total sales per month = $750/month) Total : $9,000/year

67,500 + 17,640 + 6,000 + 9,000 = $100,140

Option 5

Charge $4,500 for a website and book out 12 packages. Total: $54,000

This means you have $46K to go which is about $3,833/month. Here’s how you can earn the rest of that money:

• offer consulting packages for $500 and book out 4 per month. Total : $2,000/month or $24,000/year
• offer 8 deluxe consulting packages for $1,250 over the whole year. Total : $10,000
• create an evergreen course for $250 and sell 4 per month. Total : $1,000/month or $12,000/year

54,000 + 24,000 + 10,000 + 12,000 = $100,000

Final Thoughts

Honestly, there are about a million ways you could earn $100,000/year and depending on what type of business model you like best, you can tweak it to meet your needs. Play up your strengths and don't forget to charge for it :)
